About the Role
At Autism Queensland, our Program Assistants support the Early Childhood Intervention Teachers & Therapists in providing quality programs & strategies for children with autism spectrum disorder which address both their educational & developmental needs.
Our Early Childhood Intervention Group based in Mackay has casual relief opportunities for qualified & experienced early childhood intervention educational assistants. The successful candidates will have previous experience working in either a teacher aide or early childhood assistant role supporting children with special needs or behavioural challenges.
Shifts occur from Mondays to Fridays. Working hours are from 8:30am to 3:00pm. Hours are offered on an ad hoc relief basis.

Skills & Experience
- Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or Education Support (or working towards)
- Ability to work autonomously and in a multidisciplinary team
- Proven ability to maintain work quality and performance during tight schedules
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
- Enthusiastic about the provision of quality services to children on the autism spectrum
- Experience with children with special needs
- Experience with therapy and/or educational programs which may include self-care, toileting and feeding and social skills
Highly-regarded
- Experience working with children on the autism spectrum
- Experience supporting children who present with challenging behaviours
Special Conditions & Requirements
- Employment is during school term time only
- Some travel to other Autism Queensland sites in Brisbane may be required
- A moderate level of fitness is assumed
- It is the responsibility of the employee to hold a current, recognized Provide First Aid qualification
- It is the responsibility of the employee to hold and maintain at their own expense, a current Criminal History Screening Card/s or relevant Exemption Card - Applicants must hold a current 'Paid' Blue Card & NDIS Worker Screening Clearance prior to commencing work
- Certificate of completion in NDIS Worker Orientation Module "Quality Safety and You"
