Council’s display at the Mackay Show this year will be 'smarter' than ever before. The display will be high tech, surrounded by trees and plants of all sizes and a Library kid’s zone. The centrepiece is the Library's latest show-stopper - a brand new, pop-up Portahub (portable eLibrary) stocked with the latest info about our Libraries and will feature high tech gadgets like 3D printer, iPads, tablets and more. 2) An Artspace Mackay Special Event at Art on Show

Meet Artspace Mackay Gallery Director Tracey Heathwood and see her present a selection of her favourite artists’ books from the Mackay Regional Council Art Collection. Artspace Mackay houses almost 600 artists’ books from this collection and every two years hosts a national artists’ book prize, the Libris Awards, which attracts the very best artists’ books being created today. Tracey has a long association with the gallery and its collection of artists’ books and is herself a practicing printmaker. She will share personal insights into some of her favourite artists and artists’ books.

3) DiscoverIT -  Email

Learn an overview of how email works and how to make the most of this form of online communication. 4) Celtic Illusion

The much-anticipated family event of 2018, Celtic Illusion is the biggest dance and magical illusion sensation that has been taking Australian audiences by storm. Showcasing a stellar cast of champion and internationally-acclaimed dancers, including performers from both Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, Celtic Illusion offers some of the fastest taps in the world as the dancers’ thunderous rhythm fills the stage in perfect unison.

5) Time Out Tai Chi

6) Winter Warmers - Workshop and Live Original Music Session

3pm to 5pm > Info session with Trina Massey from QMUSIC for young musicians. Learn how QMusic can support you and your music career.
5pm to 8pm > Kick back for a live music set featuring local acts - Cooper Hickmott, Kate Heart, Kate Lockyer, Leyon Milner and Woodbridge. All welcome. BYO chairs and picnic blankets. Don't worry, outdoor heaters will be in use. Coffee and hot food available for purchase.

7) MakerSpaces Mackay 17+

9) Luke Mallie: The Wall

This year, Brisbane artist Luke Mallie will be the second person to work on The Wall, bringing him back to Mackay, the place he called home during the early years of his career. He has a boldly colourful and energetic style inspired by his Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island heritage.

10) Sunday Painters by Uta Wild

Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, Lagoons Gallery

Uta has a passion for animals all shapes and sizes, natives and those from other parts of the world. Inspiration for her artwork comes from a range of different areas of life. She strives to share her love of animals with others through her artwork. Come along, enjoy a coffee and see the animals on display. The Botanic Gardens Café and Lagoons Gallery are open Wednesday to Friday 9am – 3pm and weekends 8am – 4pm.


River Sessions

Saturday, June 30, 11am to 10pm
Queens Park, Mackay

Have you got your tickets yet? River Sessions is coming back as a one stage festival showcasing some of the biggest artists in the country along with an abundance of food option to melt your tastebuds away! A line-up that is sure to have Queens Park buzzing including The Presets, Thundamentals, Vera Blue, DZ Deathrays and plenty more!
